So much talking

We had an appointment with GI this week, and Charlie weighed 23 1/3 pounds and was 32 1/2 inches tall (both showing some growth from our last visit).  We are starting Charlie on a periactin, which acts as an appetite stimulant.  This has been suggested a few times over the last year, but we've never done anything.  When I found out about Charlie possibly having Russell Silver Syndrome, I joined the Magic Foundation and got this incredible book about everything you possibly could want to know about RSS.  It includes pages on the topic of periactin and how to administer it.  So I brought it with me, thank goodness.  The doc first suggested giving it once a day at night because it can cause drowsiness, exactly the opposite of what the Magic book suggests.  So I showed him the book and we are going to give a dose before breakfast and before dinner, hopefully making him "hungry" for those meals (instead of being hungry when we put him to bed with one dose at bedtime!)  I was glad he was willing to listen to my knowledge, but I was bummed that he didn't seem to know what I knew.

Some things I've been meaning to mention:
1. We've turned a corner and now Charlie is afraid of talking to strangers in public.  Previously, I could say "Charlie can you wave and say hi?" and he'd do it.  Now, he's putting his head on my shoulder or closing his eyes and pretends to be ASLEEP so he doesn't have to talk to strangers.  It's really hilarious because it's obvious he's not asleep, but just pretending.  The other day I had just given him a piece of cheese at the grocery store and some lady said hi to him.  So he's chewing cheese at the same time pretending to be asleep with his eyes closed. ;)

2.  A new favorite activity is "racing."  He says, ready, get set, go!" and then runs through the kitchen and dining room into the living room.  He always seems to win the race, and sometimes there is a home run at the end.  He also likes to set up his toys to watch the race.

3. Yesterday he seemed to discover how to say "I like" and he was walking around "practicing" saying what he liked.  "I like Mama."  " I like Mickey Mouse."  "I like outside."

4. Last night he spent about an hour and a half singing to himself after I put him to bed.  He sang " I've been working railroad. All live long day!"  (Unfortunately he doesn't know any more of that song.)
